Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has, with immediate effect, been expelled from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party for attending Fred Matiang’i’s homecoming event two weeks ago in Kisii.

Further, Ms. Orwoba has since lost her position as a Nominated Senator in Parliament.

To take up her nomination seat in the Senate, the UDA Party has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Bungoma County.

“Senator Gloria Orwoba ceases to be a member of the UDA Party. Consequently, she no longer enjoys any privileges accorded to party members, nor is she authorized to represent or act on behalf of the Party in any capacity,” reads part of UDA’s statement announcing the development.

The statement adds, “While the UDA Party upholds the values of freedom of expression and association as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010, fidelity and loyalty to party ideals are fundamental to its constitution and to further consolidate our multiparty politics by strengthening political parties. Hon. Gloria Orwoba cannot therefore continue to play for two political teams simultaneously.”

Matiang’i has since positioned himself as a potential presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections to challenge President William Ruto, UDA Party leader.
