Kenya’s sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala delivered another impressive performance on the international stage after storming to victory in the men’s 100m race at the Xiamen Diamond League with a season’s best time of 9.94 seconds.
Omanyala, who had finished second at last weekend’s Shanghai/Keqiao Diamond League meeting, produced a powerful late burst to edge out South Africa’s Gift Leotlela, who settled for second place in 10.00 seconds.
Leotlela had won the previous Diamond League meeting in 9.97 seconds, setting up what is quickly becoming an exciting rivalry between the two African sprint stars.
Team USA’s Trayvon Bromell, a two-time world medallist, finished third in 10.03 seconds in a highly competitive field packed with elite sprint talent.
Elsewhere, reigning Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo endured a difficult outing and finished eighth, while four-time global medallist Kenny Bednarek placed fourth after finishing second in the previous Diamond League leg.
Reacting to Omanyala’s performance, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi praised the Kenyan sprinter for once again delivering on the global stage.
“What a sprint by Ferdinand Omanyala in China! A brilliant 9.94s performance to win the men’s 100m at the Xiamen Diamond League, once again flying the Kenyan flag high on the global stage. Congratulations, Omanyala!” Mudavadi said.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also congratulated the athlete, describing the victory as a proud moment for the country and an inspiration to young sportsmen and women.

“Congratulations Ferdinand Omanyala for claiming the men’s 100m title in a Season’s Best (SB) of 9.94s at the Xiamen Diamond League! Great win in China! You continue to raise Kenya’s flag high globally while inspiring many of our young athletes! We are proud of you!” Gachagua said.
Omanyala’s latest triumph further strengthens his growing reputation as one of Africa’s fastest men and one of the most consistent performers on the Diamond League circuit.
The victory also sends a strong early-season statement as the Kenyan sprinter continues building momentum ahead of upcoming global championships, where he is expected to once again challenge the world’s elite sprinters.
