President William Ruto has handed fired Cabinet Secretaries Moses Kuria and Eliud Owalo lifeline with his latest appointments.
In the appointments announced on Friday, Owalo will now serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Performance and Delivery Management.
The appointment remains a ministerial level, accord to the communique from the Executive Office of the President.
Owalo will oversee performance of Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies in service delivery.
“This ministerial level appointment will among other roles, be responsible for effective and efficient implementation, monitoring and evaluation of priority projects and initiatives of the 5th administration in line with the BETA Plan,” the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei said.
Moses Kuria will now take on a senior advisor role in President Ruto’s Council of Economic Advisors.
His appointment came two days after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua told Kuria to relax, insisting that no door closes, without another opening.
“My brother Moses Kuria, relax. Hakuna mlango wanafunga bila kufungua ingine (No door closes without another opening). We wish you well,” he said.
Kuria in return thanked the Deputy President for wishing him well, even as he moves on to other things.
The two formerly served as CS for Information, Communication and Digital Economy and Public Service.
President Ruto on July 11, 2024 dismissed his entire Cabinet.
In the reconstitution, he only retained 10 CSs from his first Cabinet, appointing 11 new ones including the Attorney General.
Five of these were from the Opposition party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
